Comfrey is found by the wayside, in ditches and driveways, it has bell shaped flowers that hang down, it's leaves are rough and a little spikey and the sides of the leaves are gently jagged. All green growth grows out of a central basal rosette and the base of the leaves are a little prickly, Comfrey would not be the a first thought as an edible and that is because it is not. It has been used in years gone by but now most books will tell you not to eat it, but that's fine there are more soft, gentle alternatives. What Comfrey is great for is aches, sprains, tears and even fractures... it's unique medicine helps to reduce inflammation and aid recovery by stimulating cell growth, i have used this many times with great success. One thing to note:- Comfrey can look like foxglove and borage especially when the plant is not in flower, obviously you want to be sure of what you have got so to harness the healing properties, Borage can be an irritant on the skin and Foxglove is poisonous!
