A lot of people are looking for natural sleep remedies, with today's stimulating diets, lifestyle and constant exposure to EMF's and notifications that need to be responded to ASAP it is no wonder we are a little 'wired' or should i say 'wireless'! People are looking for downtime, which can lead to drinking and drugs to quiet the mind or change the current perspective which can initially help but can lead to interrupted sleep patterns and disrupted sleep cycles.
So what is the remedy for the perfect nights sleep...here are some idea's
Watch the sun set and sun rise.
Ground before bed and on waking (barefeet on the earth)
Avoid screen stimulation and hour before bed
Practice some stretching/breathing before sleep
Have a relaxing tea about an hour before bed
Have a notepad by your bed and write down any thoughts before sleep
Give thanks for the day gone by.
Be in bed by 10pm
HOPS (Humulus lupulus - cannabaceae) - Records regarding hops go back to the 8th century, it was cultivated in monasteries for beer making. Non-pollinated female cones are used which is why some male plants in the vicinity are destroyed. Young new shoots are edible in a similar way to asparagus, being high in B vitamins and minerals they were a gourmet delight in the time of Pliny the Elder a roman naturalist. The hop is an ancient medicinal plant with sedative and diuretic properties and an ability to increase appetite.
Hops are generally safe to consume and a tea is a great place to start with experiencing the effects of this medicinal plant.
Hops can help with sleep, anxiety, low appetite, menopausal issues (as they contain a Estrogen like substance), inflammation and have anti-oxidant properties.
To make tea take - 1tsp of hop flowers - 1 cup of boiled water let sit for 15 minutes with a lid on (to conserve essential oils)
